Carrigtwohill
Community National School
What is the role of the PTA?
The Parent & Teacher Association (PTA) works with the principal and the teaching staff to build partnerships between the home and the school. Educational research on the involvement of parents in schools shows that children achieve higher levels when parents and teachers work together.
- The PTA fundraises on behalf of the school and the funds go towards the purchase of new equipment or the cost of the end of year school tours.
- The PTA invites speakers to address the parents on issues which are topical or relevant.
- The PTA affords the opportunities for parents to discuss and gather views about school policies with each other and with school leadership.
How do the meetings work?
- The PTA meets three times a year to discuss topics and issues raised by the school teaching staff where they
require parental input, support, and involvement. We also discuss fundraising opportunities and organises fundraising events that go towards funding the cost of the school tours and equipment, as well as providing fun and engaging activities for the students, and for parents to meet and make new friends within the school community. - Meetings are an open invitation to all parents and guardians with children at the school, and you are welcomed
to attend these meetings and to help shape events at the school. These are also a great way to meet other parents within the school community. - PTA meeting dates are announced in Principal’s weekly newsletter, please keep an eye out there for upcoming
dates.
Communication and sharing the success of PTA events
The weekly school newsletter features highlights of events that have taken place as well as upcoming PTA events.
This is to engage with the community on the work that the PTA does, and to encourage parents to support and engage with the PTA for future events and volunteering requests.
We are an active community, working together to build a supportive school environment and we invite all parents, where possible, to support the events throughout the year.
