Review and Action Plan
The student-staff committee completed a Litter and Waste Review, and worked together to come up with our Action Plan, which contains the targets we want to achieve in the upcoming year. You can check out our goals below!
For our litter and waste review, we surveyed all of the teachers in the school, using a quiz we made ourselves to gather data on litter and waste in Scoil Chlíodhna CNS. Some of the results that came back included:
- 53% of teachers said their bins were not being used correctly.
- 78% said that water waste is sometimes or often a problem in their classroom.
- The two most chosen initiatives to see introduced in the school were education for the children around what goes in each bin, and the introduction of a compost bin in the staffroom.
We also took a walk around the school to identify where litter was gathering, which was mainly behind the GAA pitch and beside the road where the wind was blowing it into the bushes. We used Múinteoir Eoin’s drone to get some pictures of the school from above and marked in these blackspots with red dots – you can see the photos below.
Finally, we completed some questionnaires from the Green Schools handbook to help us get an idea of our starting point. There is plenty of work to do but we are excited for it!
Our Action Plan was formed by looking at the data we gathered and asking ‘How can we do better?’ You can view our targets below, and see what we have done and what there is left to do. We will be busy!
